Jobs & Economy
I will make it a top priority to protect the jobs already located in the state and attract new ones. I believe that one of the most important things we can do for our economy is to strengthen our investment in our K-12 students and our state colleges and community colleges across the state.
We need a State Senator with a real record of creating jobs.
Gregg Bennett has actually brought jobs to our local economy. He spent his career helping start ups and small companies succeed and become big companies. Gregg believes that in this recession, our state government needs to support business, not raise taxes and work against business.
Gregg Bennett On Jobs & Our Economy:
- I believe that to get our economy going again and to give hope for our future we must invest in a well trained work force. One of the most important things we can do for our economy is to strengthen our investment in our K-12 students, state colleges and community colleges across the State.
- I will make it a top priority to protect the jobs already located in the state and attract new ones.
- I believe it’s time we respect industry, commerce and business – both large and small – as the engines that keep Washingtonians employed and sustain our economic vitality.
- In the State Senate, I will take a new look at our workers compensation costs. As one of only 4 states that prohibit private competition for coverage, Washington has the second-highest benefits package in the world and the second highest unemployment insurance costs in the country. This has to change.
- Washington is also one of just a handful of states that charges a gross receipts tax, known as a B&O tax on, meaning many companies pay high taxes even if they make no profit or even lose money. I believe it’s time we support opportunities to help private sector employers create new jobs by making Washington more competitive.
